  1. FontLab Studio 5
    FontLab Studio 5 is a next-generation professional font editor for Mac and Windows. It is the comprehensive solution for font foundries, professional type designers, typographers and graphic design studios, allowing them to design type, create and modify fonts. FontLab Studio 5 supports all major outline font formats, including Type 1, TrueType, Multiple Master and OpenType.

  2. Fontographer
    FontLab Fontographer is the easiest way to create royalty-free fonts for print, multimedia, and the Internet. Easily expand existing fonts to include fractions, symbols, foreign characters, and logos in Type 1, Type 3, and TrueType fonts; or create an entire typeface from scratch. Fonts created with Fontographer can be used in any program with a font menu on Windows and Macintosh platforms.

  3. TypeTool
    TypeTool is a basic font editor for Mac OS and for Windows. For students, hobby typographers and creative professionals who occasionally need to create or customize fonts. You can add, rearrange, or redraw characters in TrueType or Type 1 fonts, as well as change their kerning and "autohint" them. Used by the Legendary Ray Larabie himself.

  4. BitFonter
    BitFonter is a professional bitmap font editor for Mac OS. It allows creative professionals, web designers and manufacturers of electronic devices to create and modify monochrome, grayscale or full-color bitmap fonts that can be used in print publications, web pages, animations, computer games and electronic devices. Convert them between formats – even vector formats like Type 1. Design, edit or color bitmap fonts and apply special effects. Embed your bitmap fonts into TrueType or OpenType fonts with the help of FontLab 4+ or AsiaFont Studio 4+.

  5. AsiaFont Studio
    AsiaFont Studio is the only commercially available two-byte font editor. You can create large Japanese, Chinese, Korean or Vietnamese fonts as well as any other multilingual Unicode-based OpenType fonts. AsiaFont Studio can handle fonts with up to 65,536 glyphs! Note: OpenType Layout tables required for complex scripts such as Arabic, Devanagari or Thai can be added with the free Microsoft VOLT application.

  6. FontForge
    FontForge runs under X-Windows. It's similar to Fontographer and can be used to create OpenType fonts. FontForge allows you to edit outline and bitmap fonts. You may create new ones or modify old ones. It is also a format converter and can interconvert between PostScript (ascii & binary Type1, some Type3, some Type0), TrueType, OpenType (Type2), CID, SVG.

  7. The Font Creator Program
    With this application you can create and modify TrueType font files. You can use the fonts in Windows 3.11 and higher. Features include the ability to load and save TFF files and unlimited undo and redo options. The last version added the ability to convert bitmaps (BMP files) to TrueType outlines, thus enabling you to create your own signature, logo, or handwriting. Previous updates improved the tutorial and the user interface, added support for new fonts from templates, and contained other fixes and enhancements. The newest release features advanced character-to-Glyph index mappings with Unicode character names, and new AutoMetrics and AutoKern features.

  8. Fony
    Fony is a freeware editor for Windows bitmap fonts.

    Font Converters

  9. TransType
    Transtype is a universal font converter allows you to convert practically any font into any other format on Mac and PC. TransType converts fonts between major font formats: PostScript Type 1, TrueType, Multiple Master. The Pro edition also supports OpenType. TransType is available in two editions: Pro (Professional) and SE (Standard Edition), and runs on Mac and Windows.

  10. FONmaker
    FONmaker is a powerful bitmap font creator for Windows. You can convert existing outline and bitmap fonts into Windows screen fonts, Windows font resources, HP Soft Fonts, and BDF font files with it.

  11. ScanFont
    With ScanFont, you can turn graphics into fonts. Any bitmap image or outline illustration* can be quickly converted into a fully-workable font. ScanFont 3 for Windows is a stand-alone application that supports bitmap graphics. ScanFont 4 for Mac supports bitmap and outline graphics and works as a plugin for FontLab 4.6 or TypeTool.

  12. FontFlasher
    With FontFlasher, our pixelfont creator, you can turn any font into a pixelfont giving crisp appearance in Macromedia Flash. Macromedia Flash uses TrueType fonts, but in smaller sizes, these fonts can look fuzzy (see example at right). FontFlasher converts almost any format font into a pixelfonts – crisp outline fonts that simulate bitmaps. This improves legibility of screen text in small font sizes.

  13. FogLamp
    Want to make OpenType fonts with Fontographer? Use FogLamp to turn the Fontographer .fog files into Fontlab .vfb files, and use TransType Pro or FontLab (Studio) to make OpenType fonts. Easy drag-and-drop batch conversion of multiple font files at a time.

  14. TT Converter 1.5 is an extremely popular program for Mac users to convert PC fonts to Mac format.

  15. FontClerk is another program for Mac user to convert PC fonts to Mac format.

  16. CrossFont
    CrossFont for Windows can convert TrueType and PostScript Type1 fonts between Macintosh and PC platforms. Works with Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000 and XP.

  17. SigMaker
    SigMaker is a quick way to add signatures, logos or other scanned characters to TrueType fonts.

  18. CompoCompiler
    CompoCompiler creates composite fonts automatically. You can use an existing composite font as a template (to determine which composite characters to make) or create your own. Then just tell CompoCompiler to create composites for any other font using the template and in seconds you've finished a job that could have taken hours!

  19. MainType
    MainType is a powerful font manager for Windows that offers a straightforward and easy-tp-use interface to help you maintain your fonts. It includes features for novice users who just want to view and install fonts as well as advanced features for graphic designers and typographers. For your convenience, the character map shows all characters grouped in Unicode blocks.

  20. Adobe Type Manager 4.6

  21. Automated Font Installer
    Wimpy Automated Font Installer easily automates installation of fonts under Windows. It's particularly convenient in corporations where there is a need to install fonts on numerous machines.

  22. Bersoft Copy Fonts
    This software is intended for the graphic designer or hobbyist that would need to distribute True Type or Postcript Type 1 fonts to third parties. You can use BCF to copy any installed font to a floppy disk or a hard disk folder.

  23. Characteristica
    Characteristica is a freeware replacement for the standard Windows charmap.exe utility. Features include selectable font types, large character viewer, text sampling, a slide show of the fonts, and HTML and image exporting

  24. CSi Font Viewer
    CSi Font Viewer is a freeware utility that allows you to view the fonts installed on your system. Font Viewer shows a list of fonts by name, and can display them in their font style. Font Viewer shows you which Fonts are TrueType by displaying the TT logo next to the font name.
